PAINTING PROJECT GUIDE

Cabinet painting: questions to ask before you start

If you like your kitchen’s layout but want a different look, cabinet painting is worth discussing before committing to a larger remodel. The right next step depends on the cabinets you have and the finish you want.

What condition are the cabinets in?

Tell us about loose doors, damaged panels, worn areas or an existing finish that is failing. Painting changes the finish; it does not automatically solve every structural or layout problem. We’ll discuss their condition before recommending the work.

What look do you want?

Bring colors or reference photos you like. Discuss how the finish will work with counters, flooring and the rest of the room. Ask about the proposed preparation and materials rather than assuming every cabinet project uses the same process.

What happens to the kitchen during the project?

Ask about doors and drawers, hardware, storage, surface protection and which areas you can use. Share access needs and upcoming events. Agree on the scope and timing before work begins rather than assuming the kitchen will be fully usable throughout.

What should the written estimate explain?

Make sure you understand which cabinets and surfaces are included, the preparation, finish, hardware responsibilities and any repairs. Ask about cleanup, the final walkthrough and written workmanship warranty terms.
